Her favourite themes include Mdina, the island of Filfla, the Neolithic Temples and the cobbled streets of ancient Rome. Although she did not receive any formal training in art, Antonella Grima persevered in exploring the world of art and in developing her talent. The Minister for Tourism and Culture Francis Zammit Dimech officially inaugurated the painting exhibition of Dr Antonella Grima whom he described as a self-made artist. “Antonella Grima is a young doctor. Her studies in anatomy helped her carve her artistic talent and she is today presenting her first solo exhibition,” said Minister Francis Zammit Dimech. The Minister for Tourism and Culture said that today we boast of six generations of artists, old to young artists whose talents are not only appreciated locally but also overseas. Minister Francis Zammit Dimech said that since joining the European Union local artists explored new opportunities in the other 24 EU States. He said that the Maltese have talent and that our love for all sorts of art is increasing. This new found urge for art is being supported by the Government and agencies like Heritage Malta that are encouraging the use of their premises for exhibitions. He said that the Centre for Creativity – St James Cavallier, the covered yard of the Manoel Theatre and the corridors of Heritage Malta are new exhibition galleries which are encouraging local artists to present their works to the public.
