Antonella Grima's  'Beyond'

at Heritage Malta

Antonella Grima is exhibiting a choice collection of paintings in ink and washes at Heritage Malta in Merchants Street, Valletta. 'Beyond' (25 works) was inaugurated on Saturday 6 August. The apt title that refers to inter‑stellar space ‑ the magic subject that has inspired her could refer to the space itself or to her dreams, her future. Antonella is a self‑taught artist and considers her work as 'outsider art'.

At the age of 23 Antonella is organising her first personal exhibition after having participated in a number of collectives during the last four years mainly encouraged and helped by the Malta Society of Arts, Manufactures and Commerce. Antonella Grima has recently qualified in medicine. Her current exhibition is quite meaningful as she might exploit her artistic therapeutic talents to ease the stress and tension of her professional responsibilities.

Antonella uses ink and washes. She uses wax on paper as a stencil to achieve brilliant whites as an etcher does to 'stop in' and 'stop out' ink on his plate with varnish according to necessity. She is a graphic artist and uses strong contrasts of black and white, of dark and light in works redolent with poetry of soft delicate blues, dark obscure blacks and shining luminous whites. Antonella might break into colour soon.
