About the Artist
Antonella Grima was born in Malta
on the 9th of January 1982 to Carmelo and Margaret Grima. From a
young age, she showed a great interest in art and creativity. Although she did
not receive any formal training in this field, Antonella
Antonella received her schooling at St. Joseph school in Malta where she chose to orient herself towards the study of sciences. Antonella read for a degree in Medicine and Surgery at the University of Malta, and is now a doctor of Medicine. The study of Anatomy as part of her university studies has helped Antonella greatly in her art. Antonella has various hobbies and passions, the most important one being painting. She also enjoys travelling, particularly to Italy, reading, attending cultural events and admiring the beauty of nature and historic heritage, both in Malta and abroad. Antonella is a member of the Malta Society of Arts, Manufacturers and Commerce.
About the Works Antonella’ s works are versatile, ranging from abstract to impressionistic to minimalist. Favourite themes include Mdina, the island of Filfla, the Neolithic Temples and the cobbled streets of Ancient Rome. She enjoys using different media and experimenting with different approaches. Her favourite medium is black ink with which she has developed a technique of dilution and blotting to extract the various colour components on paper. Other favourite media are oils and acrylics. Antonella’s art can be classified as outsider art, that is, art produced by an artist who does not belong to any school of artist and who learns through experimentation. An Outsider Artist is not bound by the rules that may bind professional artists and therefore tend to be more innovative, original and daring. |
